The Picton Reading room, part of the Central Library in Liverpool,
was completed in 1879 and is based on the Rotunda at the British
Museum in London. It is 100 feet in diameter with seating for 200
readers, and was named after the then Chairman of the Libraries
Committee, Sir James Allanson Picton.
The history of Liverpool popular music is so rooted in the 1960’s,
and in particular revolves around The Beatles. This piece illustrates
a record named after a location in their home city, ‘Penny Lane’.
