The Liverpool Tapestry:
People, Places and Passions
|
19
Liverpool has a large and vital
Chinese community (the second
largest in the country outside
London) stemming from the
days of the city being one of
the busiest ports in the world.
The association with Shanghai
continues to this day, with the
Chinese Arch being a gift from
the people of Shanghai to the
people of Liverpool, with a team
of workman from Shanghai
building the arch in a record six
months.
When choosing to stitch the
Chinese Arch, I wanted to ‘do
the Chinese Community proud’.
It is a vital part of the Liverpool
scene, and the Chinese New Year
celebrations are a colourful event
on the Liverpool calendar.”
