The Liverpool Tapestry:
People, Places and Passions
I have been embroidering for nearly 70 years, and after having
seen an article in a local paper about the project decided to become
involved. I chose to do this particular Superlambanana because I
was a Professor’s secretary at Liverpool University for 19 years. I
immediately became very fond of it, and took several photos of it.
I enjoyed afternoons at Ullet Road, and appreciate a lot of hard
work was put in over a long period of time to create a good
community project crossing a wide span of ages and professions
and where new friends were made and many reunions took place
with those not seen for a while.”
This piece was originally taken by a member of the W.I. in her
90’
s (Ada Keating) because it was colourful, but she felt unable to
finish it. Her cleaner had thrown out the colour picture reference,
and it took me several telephone calls to the City Council before
someone eventually said “I know what you’re talking about” and
kindly sent me a few sample pictures so I could complete this
piece.”
